State Convention Roundup, Reichmann Selected as Cattleman of the Year The MSCA hosted the 2012 Minnesota Cattle Convention and Trade Show at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria on December 6-8. The Convention was another great success with nearly 400 attendees over two days.Attendees had the opportunity to hear from several acclaimed speakers on subjects such as market and risk dynamics, the value of cross breeding, carcass characteristics and meat cuts, grazing of conservation lands and environmental sustainability.
During the convention, a new officer team was installed to lead the MSCA. Newly installed officers include president Dar Giess from Pierz, president-elect Tim Nolte from Sebeka, and vice president Krist Wollum from Porter. Additionally, John Chute from Aitkin was selected as the new chair of the cow-calf council and Mike Landuyt from Walnut Grove was selected as chair of the feeder council.
"We have a great leadership team that represents diverse interests in the cattle sector; and I'm looking forward to working with them to further expand our organization and address important issues facing Minnesota cattle producers," said MSCA President Dar Giess. The Cattleman of the Year award was presented to Ted Reichmann from Villard and the Cattlewoman of the Year award went to Colleen Zenk of the Minnesota Beef Council. The Beef Industry Service Award was presented to the United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services Division for their dedicated service in responding to wolf complaints.
Thanks go out to everyone who attended and participated to make it a very memorable convention. The 2013 convention will be back at Arrowwood Resort, but a week later, so be sure to mark December 12-14 on your calendar. We'll see you there!
Record breaking Convention Auction
A big thank you goes out to all the auction donors and bidders that contributed to a record breaking auction that raised nearly $24,000 to support the activities of the MSCA. This event is the organizations largest fundraiser of the year which allows the MSCA to continue the important work of the association. As is customary, the MSCA provided a percentage of proceeds to the Minnesota CattleWomen in the amount of $3,500 to assist in their promotional activities.Auction Donors
